Thanks! I didn't even notice the sharpness. I haven't touched the camera in months and sort of got re-inspired around Christmas time. I've been reading the owners manual again because I don't remember what all these buttons and symbols mean!

Here's a picture taken in the gardens of Vila d'Este in Tivoli, Italy.

It's an HDR, or rather, a blend of two exposures. I hardly ever use the HDR techniques I used in the past anymore, because the techniques fail to give me the image quality I want in most situations.
This one was blended using the following technique:
One picture, the brighter exposure was edited to optimize the foreground (and thus had a completely blown out sky). The second picture was edited to optimise the sky. However, around the edges between sky and land I used color control points to locally give the picture the same color as the brighter picture (only a lot more noisy).

After that they were blended in Photoshop, which was quite easy since around the edge, both pictures were very similar. I think this technique is a lot more relieable and also faster than the techniques I used in the past.

It's good to be back DPR, I have missed it... and Carter (My Son) is amazing! He is such a blast, and a great subject to shoot with my new camera!

    Post-Snow sunset

Here is one of several shots of a recent sunset after a snowstorm of a few inches. We were on the fringes of a costal storm that dropped more East of us in the NYC area.

    Thanks

However, next time I come over, could you please switch on the fountains?

The house in the picture is famous for its fountains, but due to technical problems they were all switched off. On good days it's supposed to look like this

Took some time off work and went to Vancouver. I took my used Nikkor 14-24 lens for a spin and got some pretty decent shots out of it. Here's one of the Canada Place in downtown Vancouver in HDR:

    Nikon D700 | Nikon D90 | 14-24mm 2.8 | 24-70mm 2.8 | 35mm 1.8 | 50mm 1.4 | 85mm 1.4 | 105mm 2.8 Micro | 70-300mm VR | SB-800s | Tiffen UV Filter, ND and Polarizer set
