what are your overall thoughts. to me that shot is as crystal clear as any other of yours so obviously there is bugger all quality lost.

Overall good so far. Cricket is pretty straight forward the batsman stays fairly still so it's easy to focus and anticipate the action. f4 is about the minimum you need I think anyway even in the shot it looks to me that the tip of the bat may be a little OOF. I took plenty of other shots at up to f8 but seeing as our PC crashed yesterday arvo I can't access RAW files on the server with these Macs that kids use and that was the only photo I had put on Flickr before the crash. I have a brilliant one of Tim snicking the ball to the keeper for a caught behind. Ch 9 and Snicko can eat their hearts out. :-)

You can see a big difference in FOV from 200 to 280 mm.

There is a noticeable difference in the weight distribution, I didn't notice that with your TC. I think hand holding the 70-200 with the TC is going to take plenty of practice but now I have discovered the sit in the shade with monopod for Cricket the practice will have to wait till the Soccer season in march 2010.

I think a 300 f2.8 with 1.4x TC and a D300 will be the ultimate for Cricket now does anybody have a mask and a sawn off shotgun they can lend me?

Like that do you? Here's one photo from yesterday taken with the D200, but there was only a red-headed female walking the water trial with me and one other guy. I sort of like another photo better that I have yet to do anything with or may not since there is a water drop smack toward the center of the lens.
