Is 18-200mm realy so soft and unsharp lense ?

not normally. its not super sharp, but its not that soft either.

I had opened the 18-200 up from memory to get the bench out of focus in front and behind my son. I normally get good results staying around F8, this is one of those times I didn't stick to F8 but like the results soft or not. He's very difficult to photograph anyway and to get a good surrounding was just precious.
Just checked F4.5, ISO 500, very cloudy and a moving kid.
D800, D300, D90, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200VR f2.8, 300 F4, 105 micro, 16-85VR, 50mm 1.8, Tammy 90 macro, 70-300VR, SB900, 2xSB600, MB-D10, 055XPROB 322RC2. New computers to run photoshop faster. C&C always appreciated. PhotoGallery

I read some tests and it realy shows best sharpnes on F8. Sometimes even F5,6 is good.
So in conclusion we can say that lens is not limited in zoom range, but in sharpnes depending on a aperture. You cant have everything...

it's not That soft.. i brought it as my only lens on a recent vacation to the Smokies and I was very pleased with the results.. and especially not having to change lenses. not to mention the VR can be a life saver at times.. i'll look through my 18-200 pics and find ya a nice a shrap one to put up for tomorrow.. as for now, Vacation Pics..
