A couple shots from today. I am really having trouble learning this D80 and am starting to get frustrated. My D50 just seemed like it produced better pics. Any comments and HELP would be much appreciated. I purposely left the watermark off these so it would not interfere with your ability to judge the pics.
Started with a Nikon D50 and now learning how to use a D80.

kommoner,
I like the picture but it would have been nice if you were able to take some shots as the cyclists entered the frame, leaving them an open place to move into on the right of the frame. (understanding of course that you can't control sporting events, but at least with cycling you have some idea which way they're headed)

Only 80kb...heavy JPEG compression. I bet the original is much better.

Calico I love the first one but I wonder if it could be a bit better darker. Is it a touch overexposed? The second one I would guess suffers from flat uniform lighting with everything a relatively uniform colour & brightness. I get the same kind of stuff shooting far away objects of uniform tone under cloud. Once the suns out it all comes up different. So maybe it's the scene not the camera or photographer?
Turo, I'm afraid the waterdrops on leaf leaves me a bit cold but perhaps I just shouldn't comment on anything after I've been drinking. I think it's because I find the backround distracting (big white splots and shapes) even though its nicely oof.

Turo, DPR is right on
I put a square crop note on your flickr page. It really is a nice shot removing the top.
When I was scrolling this page and saw it with the top removed it made for a more powerful image.

DPR and rawpaw,
Good point! I do agree it looks much better with a crop, thanks for the tip!
