Brilliant reds and blues...strong diagonal line...great shot. It would be cool to stack up a bunch of 4 stop neutral density filters and do a 30 second exposure during the day to get a shot without the cars.
Our 5 year old son graduated from Kindergarted this week, so I took a few snaps to remember the moment. I am really trying to improve my composition, but this was a real tough environment to photograph in... and I was limited to my 70-200 glass because all the front seats were taken. Here are a few of my thoughts:
1) simple: couldnt keep the photo simple by isolating my main subject (my son) with all the clutter background and kids in the picture so I opted for a wide open aperture focued on my sons eyes, and blurred out the rest.
2) Rule of Thirds: Kinda hard when you have kids and props all over the picture so I tried to take shots with my son in the left/right 3rd of the picture.. I dont think that helped any... so I took shots centered on.
3) Lines: aside from a few non-contributing benches, there were no patterns or lines to add interest into the photo that I could see....correct me if Im wrong.
4) Balance: this was a tough one... I guess I just made sure that there was a balance of kids in the picture.. not all lumped together on one side of the photo??
5) framing: none that I could see.
6) Avoiding Mergers: another tough siuation... it was a nightmare...kids hands poping out of heads, paper trees sprouting arms... the works. Again, a wide open aperture helped.
These are just guidelines that I try to follow but at the time I just realize, they are only just guidelines and that every circumstance is different, use your eye and your instincts, and with a little CS2 touch up the mundane picture can spring a little life.
Does anyone have any advice on how they shoot in cluttered environments as such?
Here is my favorite shot of the graduation... you can see the gallery here
All the critiquing aside the picture does a great job at capturing the wonderful wondering mind of a five year old... and the PP works, nice job.
I thought about who I am... and realized I was an
unformed, unreconciled imagery, without "GOD"
A shot of myself. Now - I obviously didn't take this one - no remote in my hand. But heck... This ended up being a weird day.
I was to play for a friend's (quite informal) outdoor - 95degree day - wedding, and the photographer didn't show up. SO - I fortunately had my camera with and took over. But I couldn't very well take shots during the parts of the wedding that I was participating in!
Here you go. I think this is the first shot of myself that I have posted! Enjoy... oh, and do be nice - please
