It might not be easy to fix without some specific post touch-up (since the rest of the image is so good). I think a bit darker on the lips, without affecting anything else.
I agree about the lips. Maybe I can PS it a little. I wonder if burning would work...

I'm with you there, Rooz. I see the photoshopped pictures and wonder just HOW??? But then again, I'm still learning the camera. I'll learn the software after I get better with the camera.

Or maybe I should do that the other way around?

Start now. If you can handle the challenges of PP on your first images, then just THINK what you will be able to do when you take better and better images. (and you will have much of the learning curve under your belt).

Also, doing it now helps you identify your priorities during the shoot.

    Kellie,

I am not sure - you could do this by selecting the lips and promoting that selection to a layer, as I mentioned for Rooz in fixing the shadow, or you could work some more on the actual color channel mixing of the shot...

I am not sure that working the whole image is going to get you what you want since the lips are lighter but carry much of the same color as the hair (if I remember the color version of the child correctly)

Here is a good article I found on channel mixing for B&W conversions... Slightly different than some other tutorials I have used... But I really like the idea.. will have to try it this way myself next time...

The Dodge/Burn tool might do it, I haven't played with that a whole lot, but it might work much like the selection and promotion - only faster

Well, here's my second offering. I was in Oak Glen yesterday - touristy spot, but unfortunately the weather has been terrible for photos lately (very uniform overcast, total wash-out of diffused sunlight... and I enjoy light pictures, using the sun and all. It's clearing up, though), so most of my better images were inside a shop. Here's one.

Shooting mode: auto (no flash), f/5.6 at 55mm, shutter speed 1/25 second, ISO 400, spot metering, single-point AF, exposure compensation -0.3 (I was tending to get too-bright focused areas).

I did some PP in photoshop Lightroom (wonderful program), brightening exposure a little, improving contrast, a little extra saturation in a couple of color channels, and some sharpening. The image is about as sharp as I've seen an unsharpened DSLR photo of this kind, but the nonexistent noise meant that sharpening a bit more made it even better.

... I figure if I'm ever going to shoot models, I should start... small! Thanks for looking.

... on the other hand, how does this look, with an "artistic blur" rather than the sharpness? I'm new at this caliber of PP, please bear with me.

I edited the gamma just a bit here as well, to look better with less definition.

Nice edit, Fionndruinne. I think the blur suits the subject well. The original is also nice; great colour and exposure. I am not sure which one I prefer.
