thanx all. thanx xailo for that rework. i love what you did with it. appreciate that. i hate you a little less for the 70-200 f2.8 VR now.
btw: no flash used in that photo cos i was too lazy to go down and get it. i did bump the iso right up to get the brighness but i also needed it to get the shutter speed up cos it was fairly dark. i have done this many times with other portraits but the first time i have used it for myself and i like it all of a sudden. i have tried to get a similar effect using the VR and kit lens and neither produced the equivalent result of the 50mm. 90% of the time though i am using the sb-600 bounced off ceiling with diffuser. i find alot of times i'm using the flash turned backward and bounced away from the subject aswell.
tcadwall...i tried for ages to fix that lighting on the chin but i couldn;t get it to look right, it looked too photoshopped when i tried. how would you go about fixing that up ? i have nx and cs2. any tips on fixing that would be appreciated.

I really like how smoothly the colors in this picture blend together. Nice work!

No issues here thus far. I haven't tried any of the other teleconverters since from what I have heard and read, the Nikon 1.7x is pretty much the only way to go. The 1.7x is expensive, but I'm pleased so far and even passed on two "used" Nikon 2.0s at Samys (Pasadena, California) that were selling for only $59.00 each. I forgot to ask at the 4-story LA store, but it wouldn't suprise me if they had more in stock. I even got to play with the 39-megapixal Hasselblad in the LA store--very expensive!

Alright, my first post here. This was a terrific game of Rook, and played in a very dimly-lit room. Programmable auto mode. Some EXIF: No flash, focal length 18mm, f/3.5, shutter speed 1/6 sec., ISO 1600 (!), spot metering, tungsten lighting.

This could benefit from some sharpening, but so far I've done no PP except to crop out some wrist. I have a lot of fun photos from this game, but that's all for the moment. Cheers.

Thanks TNB, just so happens when I was doing a price check on the Nikon 1.7x TC @ B&H, the Hasselblad 1.7x showed up in the search result at $1,344. That really makes it easy to live with the price of the Nikon TC.

Rooz,
Would have been easier to add a light!
ok... If I couldn't fix it that way, I would probably use a free-hand selection tool to select the area to lighten up. Then I would promote it to a new layer, and try bumping the exposure. Depending on the success of that move, you might be done, or you might have to merge the layers and then blend the regions (to soften the edge of the selection) with a touch up tool. I use PSPX - not photoshop. I would imagine that the technique would be almost identical in photoshop.
I am not sure what exactly you already tried... Maybe you did this already and it didn't work.
