I understand peoples curiosity in others misfortune and or grief, but I am not sure its appropriate to publicize something like this. A couple weeks ago my neighbor died due to his house catching fire. In my opinion it would have been wrong for myself and others to run out there an take pictures of his house burning to the ground.

If its an abandoned house thats different, but it wasnt stated in this case. Unless you had permission from the home owner to publicize this tragedy I just think its immoral. Im sure others may disagree but thats my personal opinion.

Jcon- so should i ahve yelled at the 4 news cameras out there, the other 2 people with a way better camera then I taking pictures. Or not showing what fireman do for when tradegys happen to us? just my opinion. and its not like i was standing infront of the peoples whose house it was taking pictures of them.

News reporters are a whole different story, they make stories off of peoples tragedies. I cant stand them. The ones that were filming and interviewing after my neighbor died in his house fire, I told them to get lost and quit trying to profit off of tragedies.

It doesnt matter if others were doing it or not, doesnt mean you have too and simply because you werent standing on the doorstep doesnt make it ok, you still took pictures of someones house burning down.

Look, I understand everyone wanting to get that "special" picture, but to me, somethings are off limits. Your beliefs and respect for other peoples privacy and grief may be different....

jcon, I understand that tragedy hit close to home for you so the emotional aspect might persuade you to feel this way. I for one think there isn’t any photo off limits in America. That is one of the great things about this country. Thank god we had people taking photos during 9/11. At the time I probably would have felt different, even disgusted but over time I have grown to appreciate the fact that was have those images captured.

If I had a house on fire in my backyard I would definitely be taken photos of it as long as I couldn’t help save someone of course.

shoeytennis, thanks for the link, you have some keepers in there. The residents of that house might even appreciate a copy of your set for numerous reasons.

Wow, TNB I like that picture alot and especially because its hand held . I sure do want that 17-55 f/2.8 though, that would be a good christmas present I think to everyone in photography.
