50mm problem

Hi everyone, my first post...ehem...so I purchased the Alpha with the zoom package and it's been working great. I decided to invest in a fixed 50mm and just recieved it. I put it on the camera and the body is not recognizing that it's an AF lens. It says on the screen MF. It is switched to auto focus on the camera, the camera is also set for auto focus. Nothing, if I want to take a picture I have to manually focus this lens. I would really appreciate any help in knowing if this is a bum lens or the body itself...oh, and the few pictures I've taken with this lens have turned out totally over exposed. TIA. -gener

sorry, I forgot to mention that the lens in question is the new Sony 50mm.

for everyone concerned, you'll be relieved to know that I exchanged the lens for one that works. Word!!!
