Going to the beach

Greetings,

This weekend and the next, I will be heading to the beach. I am thinking of bringing along my Canon Rebel XTi 400D to take some photos around the area.

Do I need to take into consideration any precautions that may affect my camera, such as windy sand or excessive sunlight?

It's my first time to bring my new toy with me on holidays. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

my friend recently brought his xt to the beach and didnt quite like the experience. he was too worried about his camera near the sand. he took pictures by the rocks/docks but had his camera in a plastic bag all other times.

I think the beach we are headed to isnt too windy. At least not windy enough to sweep the sand off the beach and into the air.

If I will be taking pictures I will most likely be standing on rocks or a pavement of some sort. I think it may not be a good idea to change lenses every so often, at the least not in the open beach area.

Now that youv'e mentioned salt air. Is it really a big concern? Should I protect my camera from these small particles that linger about?

Or should I not worry too much, have fun and shoot?

Whenever i go to the beach i'll be honest... i'm paranoid. I buy a turkey roasting bag and wrap my entire camera up in it... tie it off well and put a rubber band around the tip of the lens and cut away the plastic for a clear shot. That's the ONLY way i feel safe. I'm crazy paranoid though so what does that mean? I'd be very cautious without a weather proofed body (yours isn't one) because the tiniest amount of sand inside a camera or lens can jack some stuff up. A turkey bag and rubber band is like 2 bucks and very affordable insurance. Nothing wrong with looking stupid to protect your equipment.
