    Ghost Town: Tiermas

For about a week during my holiday in Spain I stayed at a camping near the ghost town of Tiermas. The town has been abondoned for decades. I have heard that it has been abandoned after a dam in Yesa (a couple of miles further) had been completed, drowning all the land previously used for agriculture. Here are some pictures I took in this town and its surrounding landscape. All images taken with the D50 and Sigma 10-20. Comments and criticism more than welcome.

    Prospero -

Beautiful images - thanks for posting them!

This set of pictures makes me wish that I could get away more than I do. There are so many beautiful, mysterious, wonderful things to see in the world that I might not ever get to see for myself.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Tekriter.
I agree, there is so much to see in this world, yet so little time in which you can actually go and see it. It's already two or three months ago that I took these pictures and since then I have taken only a few pictures and visited hardly any interesting places. Studying at university and working in the weekends has taken up most of my time during that period. I am really anxious to visit some nice place again, but for the next half a year I don't think my schedule will allow it.

Thanks, wh0128. The sky is so blue because I took most of these pictures with my back towards the sun and I underexposed most by 2/3rd stop. I find that the D50 often tends to overexposes causing the skies to look a lot less dramatic.

Yes, the 10-20 is a real pleasure to use. Photographing with such a wide angle brings many new chalanges and possibilities. Anyway, I use this lens so much when shooting landscapes that I shoud be careful not to forget about the details (requiring a much smaller field of view).

Tiermas was not the only abandoned vilage on the edge of this basin. A couple of miles further upstream is the town Escó. I didn't have enough time to visit this vilage, but I did get this shot from a bit of a distance with the Sigma 17-70 @ 70mm.

Yes, so did I, but sadly I could not convince my family to visit yet another abandoned city. At that time I did not have my drivers license (I do now ) so I could not visit it on my own.

I did find some pictures on the internet of this town: http://www.castillodeloarre.org/zara...90482-Esco.htm

If you like to visit something that is abondoned this region would be a very good one to go to. There's lots of abandoned stuff around that lake. Besides these two towns, there also many abondend farms, castles and strange structures. Also, the landscape looks pretty interesting due to vulcanism in the past.
