Release Dates (a630/40)
Just wondering if say the Canon website the release for the a640 is Sept 06 - how accurate would you judge that to be?
I have a Nikon D50 and will be going on a trip on Nov - and I need a compact camera when lugging around the d50 would not be possible and I've made a short list of currently available compacts and the a620/610 are at the top.
So, do you think I should wait for the a640/30? or snatch up one of the very very few remaining a620/10s that I found?
The prices would be roughly the same right? (i.e the 'regular' price of the a620 would pretty much be the same for the a640 when it comes out?)
Edit: I know that there's a lot of differences - like the MP would be higher for the a640/30 and I think it's a different sensor too? etc.. but strictly price wise, it would be roughly the same right? Because Im thinking I wont need it until mid Nov anyway, so if the price is going to be same might as well wait and get a better camera?

Don't be too sure about that. The MSRP of the A620 is, I believe, either $299 or $349, with an original MSRP of $399, but is now available for around $200. A brand new model is not likely to be heavily discounted.

Yeah. an A640 will be $400 most likely when it comes out. maybe a bit lower in some cheap places. the A620 is much cheaper now. Officemax has them for like $179.99 this is the cheapest i ever saw. their online might be out of them but they had them this morning and you could call stores near you. in the end that is less than half the price of the A640. Also more megapixels on the A640 which uses the same size sensor as the A630 means noiser images. you would be better off with the A630 most likely if you buy one of the new cameras.

Hmm, yeah I think the A640 is out of the question right now.
My problem is that of all the stores with still a few a620's and a610's that I've tracked down in my area most of them are still at roughly full price - a610 for example is at Cdn 379.99. and I'm guessing the a630 to be coming out at probably only $60 more..
But one thing I noticed is that some of the bigbox retailers here actually put up good discounts for new non-SLR cameras. They usually go in the front of the flyer with 20-50 bucks off for the first 5-7 days. So maybe I might get a deal on the a630.
And I know, I know online stores are much much lower but let's just say that the only things I buy online are DVDs and books. Sorry, its a personal thing.
Another question though - I asked most of my major Brick nd mortar camera stores and most dont have a clue when theyll get the a630.. although I've seen a few posts over at dpreview of people seeing it on display at Bestbuy etc..? Does canon historicaly release that fast? I think these were announce late Aug only right?

Ok, another quick question - if say a retailer has a dozen or so camera's of a model that's just been discontinued - do they go back to Canon when say a new model is made available?
I would think not as it wouldnt be good business sense, but just wondering..

Hey Chuck, when are you guys coming out with the next Walker episode? Could you post up some pics of you doing a spinning heel kick, with a step by step tutorial?
In regards to your question - I think they would retain those models, why would they go back?
