they have some kinda adhesive strip that catches it below the sensor. Wonder if that'll be user replaceable?

Hey..eh..what exactly do those MTF charts show? Like how do you read them?

50mm f1.2 L is nice but don't you think $1600 is a little much? I mean the 50mm is dwarfed by lenses like the 70-200mm not only in size but sheer complexities.

Looks interesting, hopefully that comes to the 30D/"whatever new one is" line too the dust off function.

Read my Lens Buyer's Guide (in my signature) for a very quick runthrough on how to interpret MTF charts.

The 85L is even more expensive!

Amazing ain't it? And the $300 50mm f1.4 is just 1 stop slower, probably focuses better (well, faster), has very nice bokeh, color, contrast, and everything else that makes a fine lens.

That said, I'd bet, I'd bet this 50L is worth it! Just look at what the used 50mm f1.0 sells for (I saw one for just under $4K, used). It's almost certianly a similar IQ to my 35L, and that thing is just WOW. The photos just jump out of the computer and have magical pro-butter smeered all over them. Just rich and beautiful.

Hey, if you pay $5K for all that camera stuff, why not have $1500 of it be one of the all-time great lenses of the world.

I donno, it's like having 2 paintings, same canvis, same paints, similar frames, similar scenes. One is $1000, the other $100,000.

I think maybe the process for grinding and creating all that high-end glass is expensive and resource consuming too, not to mention the exacting assembly process.
