got my a100 today
the a100 is similar to my oly e-500, same cheap plastic feel but bigger.
the 18-70mm is nothing great, the nikon 18-70mm is a lens.
but !!!! 10.2 mp with lens for 999.00 its a bargin
pluses at 10 mpix 262 pix on 1gig card, nice
2.5 inch display the best, does it have tv!
focus is fast and continous
steady shot is great, where has this been!
menus very simple
the left dial has focus, wb, iso, dynamic what ever. no fubbling in menus
do i like so far did in door test shots, am very impressed.
in door flash low light are impressive, auto white balance is right on.
pictures come out sharp like the oly e-500 nice color at default settings
compared to d70 ord100 which need post processing for sharpness.
niose, forget about it! noise reduction in camera and even at 1600 in doors with flash very aceptable.
so i saved 800 dollars and didnt get a d200, but spent 300 on sigma 24-135mm 2.8 and tamron 70-300mm macro 1.2 to round out lens line up

Minolta Maxxum Lenses fit your new Sony Alpha DSLR A100?
I have a nice collection of Minolta Maxxum lenses (Gold Series) and was wondering if by chance you've had a chance to test if these lenses fit your new A100. If so, can you please let me know?
Much appreciated!
Armando

Noise issues
What do you mean noise levels are not a problem?
I dont own an A100, but I've come across this review at:
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/SonyA100/page4c.shtml
It compares the A100 with the Rebel XT at different ISO levels. Keep in mind that the Rebel XT is cheaper than the A100 and yet still outperforms the A100 in terms of noise quality.
I'd say, taking photos at ISO 400 isnt that bad with the A100. But above 400, you start to see the difference.

noise
there will always be an aceptable amount of noise.
do you buy a camera on the amount of noise level only or the feature set.
take the first d2h, all the reviews said high noise, lousy display. but i used it
in las vegas shooting the belaciuo fontains at 8 frames a sec, and yes when
i hit the shutter heads did turn to see what was that noise. but its made for
speed not low noise.
the a100 is an afortable 10.2 mega pixel camera that has a good feature set.
picture come right out of the camera sharp and printable.

2.8-4 fits. 119.00 bargin (this lens is a hunk of glass 77mm filter)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as for lenses you have not made the best choices for the money.
The Sigma 18-125 and Sigma 70-300 APO Macro would probably have been beter choices.

As for noise... krzkrzkrz was talking about image noise not the actual sound of the camera operating.

needs
the sigma 24-135mm is 2.8 at 24mm and f4.5 at 135mm. i bought it for the
open 2.8 apeature. now anywhere else this lens is 300+ $$$
i have the nikon version on my d2h, since d2h hasnt any pop up flash. its a fast lens good for company softball team a nd portraits.
at 77mm thats a big lens.
the 70-300mm ive used the nikon version on my d70, the 180-300mm
macro setting brings you right in there as i photograph bees bugs and flowers.
still 999+119+129, is still less then a d200 with out a lens.
i have a d100, d70, d2h, and an e-500, now the sony a100. nikon is covered
as i like working with the 6mp files.

I didnt mean noise as in a resounding click or vibrate. I meant image quality

image noise
geez image noise,,
think how often do you shoot at 1600?
if i was a low light shooter i would get a canon
i generaly shoot nikon, but hate the work flow, unshapen mask, contrast, color, to much fixing
olympus e-500 i was getting spoiled by out of camera sharp images.
the sony seems perfect, sharpness, color, contrast and noise
