S2 IS strange noise in the lens

Hi to all, my Canon S2 IS suddenly started to make a strange noise when I move the lens, turn on, turn off of change the focus distance. The pictures are still fine, but I don't want that it broke.
Any ideas before I send it for repairs? (It is still under warranty). I will travel in two weeks, and I want to take the camera !
    Thanks

It probobly has debris in the teeth of the gears. The gears rotate and this advances the lens in and out. I dont think they will do anything to the camera to fix that. They may change the mechanisim but i dont think they will do it for free. I think if you look at canons warantee it says they dont backup water or sand abuse. When your talking about teeth as fine as they are on these cameras the debris that can get in can be floating in the air. It can cling to the lens just from oils in the skin and then work its way down into the camera.

They have taken steps to prevent this from happening using rubber o-rings, rubber gaskets and stuff but its almost impossible to keep it all out.

Do a test and see what you think. Put your camera in M mode, turn the "S" super macro on and then use the "MF" manual focus and focus in on the front lens. If you adjust the focus in and out, you can actualy focus in on the front lens and you can see all the dust and crap on the front lens. You might be suprised how dirty it is. How did this get there?

Ill post a picture of mine. :/

Thanks for your help. I realized that when I zoom "slowly", the noise is the usual one. I took the picture in supermacro mode, but I see no dust.
If the warranty doesn't cover this repair, how much do you think that they will charge me? Also, do you think that if continue to use the camera it will broke soon?
    Thank you very much

I have an A70 camera that i got used off e-bay for $30. and it had been dropped on the lens. It binds and makes grinding noises and so far ive put over 4K image on it since i got it 4 months or so ago. Im still amazed everytime i turn it on that it even boots up. This is the most trashed camera ive ever seen and it still takes some flawless images.

The super macro mode has to be adjusted with manual focus all the way down to focus in on the lens. Its kinda weird it will do this but it does.

I dont know if it will break further if you continue to use it. Will canon fix it? i cant tell you that either. If it was mine i would just use it and live with the noise. You could call them and try and see what they think they will do or the cost. Its hard to say what they will do.

The crap this A70 has been threw i guess is why i back canon so much.

I had an S2 delivered from the west coast and one from the northeast. The one from the northeast was significantly louder, then it just stopped making the excess noise. It never seemed like the operation was impaired just slightly noisey maybe certain climate changes effect the dampening feature.
I thought about who I am... and realized I was an
    unformed, unreconciled imagery, without "GOD"

    NikonD?
    and some other Nikon stuff

Yes, the noises can be different, but my camera noise suddenly was much louder than usual (I have it since last year).
