For what its worth, I like my one and only prime and it made me decide to buy a couple more, not covering the whole gamut mind you, but to have a little lowlight variety.

I was also offered a trade of the 300mm f/4L IS for Bigma (which is for sale). Still debating on that one...
    Ouch.

If you're serious about photography, save yourself the cash and buy the best now. You'll only end up doing so eventually anyway.

    Trust me.

Amen to that. HOWEVER...there are some top quality alternatives out there that can do the job with caveats.

    Decision made

I did it. Went the Lroute. Got the 17-40 f/4 L. Since this whole jump into SLR photography is a "bit" of a "touchy" subject with my "wife" (wait..she really is my wife and I love her ) I haven't been able to take much time to take some shots. When I bought the lens I got the Hoya UV and Circular Polarizer. I only had about 30 mins to take some shots.

I realized after taking the shots that I forgot to take the polarizer off for the daisy pix so they are dark. They are all untouched. If anyone wants to take some time and do some correction for me to show how they "should" have turned out if I had remembered to take the darn thing off, waited until full sun and been able to mess with settings instead of using auto...let me know... I will shoot you the file. Anyway, here they are.

I didn't have much to work with, just 294k file. Just a 10 second edit - little levels adjustment, a little sharpening. . . 1/3 cup eagle brand milk, 1/4 cup pecans. . . wait. . .where am I?

Nope...no sharpening. Like I said it was a quick rushed shoot. I was using Auto mode because I just didn't time (nor the experience yet)to figure out the proper settings. I was using the 17-40 at full zoom with a UV and circular polarizing filter. Unfortunately, I was in the shade for some of the (specifically the daisy's). Also, there was a bit of a breeze that day too...so I was trying to capture a slightly moving object.
