SAKAR adapter for S2 IS
Hello everyone. I searched the forum and surprisingly found no mention of the SAKAR adapter for the S2 IS.
Sakar LA-S2 58mm Lens Barrel Adapter
Though definitely not as "pretty" as the Lensmate Adapters, I can't seem to overlook the price difference (half the Lensmate price). Granted, we're only talking about 10 bucks or so, but still...
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks,
Phased.

I have the one that is the 52mm its big near the body then tapers down soon with a long skinny front.

That lens is really good too, and i gave $5. for it. It works better then the cheap "crystal optics" i gave $20. for.
You should look around there are some really old teleconverters and wide converters that are good.
Some one mentioned that back when most of these lenses were made there was no e-bay and there wasnt as much cheap stuff floating around with the low grade like the ones on e-bay now. I hope thats true because i ordered like 5 others ill get next week sometime. If you want to wait ill tell you wich ones i find that are good. None of them i gave more then $15. for shipped.

That looks nice! What exactly do you have on there? Thanks so much for the help! Are you getting them all through ebay? I'm just getting started so it's good to hear that there are other options!
As I understood it, you said you have the 52mm Sakar Adapter for the S2? I've only seen the 58mm. I didn't even know there WAS a 52mm.
Any help regarding optics and where to buy would be VERY appreciated!
Thanks again,
Phased.

Well the 58 i got from lensmate because it looked the best. The 52mm adapter looks the same from lensmate as it does on the ones from e-bay and they said they were metal just like the lensmate so i just got the one from e-bay because it was only like $8. and like $3. for shipping. I got the one that was a little more that came with a silver hood thing. I got one of the cheap filter kits for both teh 58mm and the 52mm i just wanted the polarizer at first because it was dark and it shaded the front so it looked cool like an SLR. The more i used it the more i liked how it worked. At first i had no idea what it even did, now i do and i love it. Ill probobly wind up getting a bunch of the adapters and then fit somthing to each one then just use the little button on the front to pop the adapters on and off insted of unscrewing the parts and changing them to the adapters.
Top is the 58mm and PL filter, bottom is the 52, lens hood and 52mm PL filter

I got the 58mm first and the filter kit and i didnt like the way the silver ring looked on the stock lens. You can see that little silver band threw the filter so i pulled it off. You can see it in this picture threw the filter.

i think the adapters and the filters give it more of an SLR kinda look and feel and i like having other parts to switch too but still has the 12X zoom power. Plus i think the adapters gie it a bit of an atitude

I looked at SLR cameras but for 1 they were all around $800. -$1200. and i didnt like the idea of using CF memory and i didnt want a battery pack. I wanted to stick with canon but they didint have an camera with those options. The 12X and the rotating LCD also sweetens the deal so i just got the S2.

That black lens on the first picture is just some 1.6X teleconverter i found used on e-bay for $5. The guy selling it said he didnt know what it went to and didnt know anything about it. I could see in the pictures it said 52mm so i bid and won it. It was some pawnshop seller or somthing. It fit on my 52mm adapter and its the best telephoto lens i have now. I have 3 others, i have a canon 1.5X and a Star D camcorder adaptor and then a crystal optics 2.0X chepis from e-bay and the one in that picture up there is the best one. I got so lucky.
If you find one get it! its called Arkon video telephoto 1.6X high quality lens. It looks like somthing from the late 80s but man its a grat lens. It bumps the telephoto up to about 14-16X and still is crips and clean as the 12X
THe blue strip is just a rubber band for a grip kinda thing, the black stripes on the lensmate is just a pinstripe from a pinstripe car kit. The other black strip is black electrical tape just to give some color for looks. I was just messing around.

I got this monster lens today, its kinda cool you can adjust it to fit. Under the grip it has a little set screw and you can adjust the 2 lenses and set them to the camera. Pretty cool lens but its so dang heavy!

The other one is one of the e-bay 58mm cheapies. The brand is crystal optics. I got it because its silver and it matched the adapter but it doesnt work to good on this camera. It seems to be built for the G series canons with less zoom.
I wish some one else would get into the adapters like me and test some we can trade info.

I'm up for testing these out. Just point the way on ebay and I'll try some out as well.
Thanks for taking the risk of buying these and then sharing your experience.
It really helps the collective (no Borg smiley's to put here).

Well just do what i do, i just go to e-bay and i type in "telephoto" click gallery so you can see the mainimage, then resort by lowest price first. I try and stay below like $10-$15. then find the lenses that look like they may work. The one i got that says hi quality video i really didnt think it would work because it didnt look very high tech and was so cheap but i figured what the heck for $5. Then when i got it and it looked so good i just went crazy and started bidding on everything.
For a while i just search 52mm telephoto and 58mm telephoto but it seems the best deals are from those who have no ide what size they are or anything about them.
I think the old lenses maybe good because like some one else sugest there was no place to sell cheap junk like you can on e-bay so most of the stuff before then had to be decent or no one would buy it.
Mine has this little ring step down ring that says S7/52mm i found that s7 is the same as 54mm you may have to use step rings some may have them some may not.
I have about 5 more comming in next week. A few telephotos and a few wide. Ill post how they are when i get em.

these maybe

This one is kinda weird i have a set i bid on that is similar, it has somthing they call a viewfinder eyepiece. Maybe that mounts to the camera and gives the viewfinder a similar image to what the adapters would see? so if you add a 2X the videfinder will add a 2X so you can frame it properly?

Im curious about the bower brand, no relation lol

Some there is no info at all, would be nice to know how big they are by measuring the threads or somthing. They look bigger then they are in the pictures. 37mm is little thats for like an A70 powershot. Those would be to small i would think.
