How do you convert .411 file to .jpg

I received a floppy with pictures that I need, but they are in a .411 format. I'm having no luck opening the pictures. Is there a way to convert them to jpg pictures?

I've never heard of the format, but Lemke Software's GraphicConverter is always worth a try.

Maybe is only need to change extensions of files, from 411 to jpg. If you using MS Windows, go to tools>folder options>view> and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". Now, you can see extensions of files at the end of filename. Try to rename 411 into jpg and then just try to opet file.

If you got the floppy from a store that put the pictures on for you, there should be a "viewer" also on the floppy. Once you can view the pictures you can save them in any format you wish. Did you search Google for *.411 or just 411?

I have tried all these sugestions with no luck. Still can't open. Is there something Sony offers to open these since they were taken with a Sony camera?

.411 is a Sony Mavica file extension.

This is a good place to look for unknown file extensions:

As for a viewer, try the software on Sony's website.

.411 are not picture files. Mavicas store those files (I believe) to display information such as when the picture was taken etc. If you look at the file size, the .411 file sizes are probably not that big (around 4 - 6KB).

Zero is correct. The .411 file extension is for index files. You should also notice n .HTM file extension also. This is a throw back from the Mavica. You can delete any files with this extension and it won't affect your photos.

    .411 files ARE images!

Actually, both of you are wrong.

The .411 files are image files. With each picture taken, the Mavica stores a 64x48 pixel thumbnail as a .411 file. This file is hidden by default.

There are a number of applications that will allow you to view these files:

    - Javica (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...adownload.html)

    - Maview (no longer maintained/sold: http://web.archive.org/web/200308181...mvdownload.htm)

For more information on the .411 files, see Mavica .411 File Source Code (http://www.mav-magazine.com/Dec1998/...1/code411.htm).

There you'll find some code and info on other apps you can use.

    Enjoy!
