    SD100 Memory card error

My Uncle has a 2.5 yr old SD100. He dropped it on a tile floor and now it won't work and says "Memory card error". He put a new card in and still gets the error, so it's not the card. Any idea what is wrong or what to do? Thanks.

CF memory is a bad design. It uses these little pins that can get bent or broken. The bad part is the pins are in the camera insted of being on the cheaper part the memory. Would be nice if they put the pins on the memory insted of the camera but they didnt.

2 things could of happened. 1 the impact could of poped a connection loose inside and it could be an easy fix once you get it apart wich is not so easy. or 2 the pins are bent inside.

Here is what you do, remove the memory card and get the camera into some good light, look into the memory slot and check the pins. There should be 2 uniform rows of pins, if there is anything in there that is not identicly uniform a pin or 2 could be bent together and shorting each other out. Its common and its not your fault least its not a 2K rebel or somthing.

Ive heard of people using a mechanical pencil and push the tip into the slot and bend the pins back into position. The tip holds the pencil lead that is the same size and the pins slip right into the tip. If they are to far bent they could break but you have a camera that is already non working so its worth a shot to try and bend em back IF thats whats wrong. Its hard to tell without looking at it.

    Hope that helps some one.
