    any suggesstion for d70`s lens???

    i just taking photo.
maybe i`m going to buy a nikon d70.
as the beginning, i don`t think buy serval lenses is a clever choice.
so i want to pick a lens that is easy to start and not very expensice.
is there any choice except the nikon 18-70mm one?
    thanks a lot

Well, the 18-70 is a very, very good lense. It's expensive to buy without the 'kit' package. It gives you a fine bit of range, 27 - 105.

I don't know why you wouldn't want it, but, if not, Sigma just came out with a new lense, 18-125mm, which is really 27 - 185, not so bad either. I doubt it's photo quality is better then the kit, though.

I take it that 18-70mm digital lens is different than the same in a SLR?
How do you tell the difference, or what's the formula to compare?
    I understand SLR. :-)

With a D70, you multiply the actual focal length by 1.5 to get the equivalent focal length.

Go with the "kit" lens. For $300 you are not going to find anything even close. And even Nikon retails the 18-70 for $399.

There is a very good 17-35 f2.8 Tamron out there but it is $500. I have ordered the Sigma 18-125 ($269) and will let everyone know how it works. I tested the Tamron 28-300 but it didn't work any beter than my current 2 lens system.

Also keep in mind that when you are buying lenses, specifically zoom lenses, you want those lenses designed for digital SLR use. For fixed lenses its not quite as critical.

Bottom line is: Go with the 18-70 Zoom Nikkor DX. It is a good all around Lens.

    D7000, D70, CP990, CP900, FE + a lens or 6.

    thank u guys!!!
anyway it`s always hard to decided which one to take at last.
up till now, only 2 under 1000usd dslr is available. i think after the september there will be serval new choices appear, which not onlyu means serval new ways but also the old type will have to discount, so maybe i`ll wait till october to find out the final answer.
also i`m waiting for the result for the Sigma 18-125 lens test as well.

Also, Sigma just introduced an 18-50 F2.8 EX-series lens for those needing more speed. No word on price, I'm guessing $400-$500.

Looking for an inexpensive zoom? I have the Sigma 55-200 for my DReb, and it is great for the price (about $130us). It should serve nicely until I can afford to upgrade to a pro quality telephoto. On the D70 it becomes an 82-300mm telephoto.
