Does external flash reduce/avoid redeye with Canon A520

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix 4600 and I don't like it. I'm going to return it and I want to get the Canon A520. As with most small digital cameras, redeye is a problem. I don't mind fixing it, but sometimes it looks unnatural.

Question: Has anyone used the external flash with this camera and does it reduce/avoid redeye on indoor photos?

I have a Canon G3 so I don't want to purchase another expensive camera. I just want a compact camera that is easy to carry.

This is probably just wishful thinking, but hopefully someone has had luck with an external flash.

    Thanks

An external flash will avoid redeye yes. If the external flash is slave triggered from an internal flash that has no hotshoe or PC link then you may still get redeye from the internal flash even using an external flash. In which case I found the simple solution was to diffuse the internal flash with some paper which still allows the external flash to detect the light change and go off giving that much needed light boost.
