An Olympus E-300 tour through Tokyo (8 big img)

Since nobody else is posting here much, I decided I'd offer this tour through downtown Tokyo. I took these shots a couple of months ago during a tour my university hosted for participants in an international symposium here. I normally don't carry my E-300 with me in Tokyo due to the fact I've usually got another briefcase, so this gave me a chance to do some shooting of sites I see but don't usually notice that much. --all except the very last were taken with the Olympus E-300 and ZD 14-54mm f2.8-f3.5 lens. (Since the vertical format shots take full advantage of the browser screen, you might want to hit F11 right now).

First, a couple of basic Tokyo skyline shots:
This one was problematic; I tried to straighten the foreground lines in photoshop, but it made the background building too chubby.


The next is a scene all too typical of postmodern Tokyo:


For all its 12+ million people, Tokyo doesn't have much space. I can't even hide my shadow, not to mention this poor car!


Almost looks like these koi (carp) are swimming in jello at the pond of the Atago Shrine


These three ladies visiting the Kanda Myojin shrine agreed to pose and smile for the strange gaijin with the camera:


A wall of votive lanterns just as dusk begins to fall at Kanda Myojin:


Sunset over Ochanomizu Station:
I wish I could have taken more time with this exposure (maybe blending two), but I was walking with a group and only had time to grab a couple of quick hand-held shots. The sunset was really quite pretty--had I not blocked it out here.


"Moonrise, Akihabara"
Many visitors know the Akihabara district for its electrical and computer stores. This gives it a bit different appearance. I took this from the same bridge--but facing in the opposite direction--as the previous photo. The bridge is over the Kanda River, which incidentally flowed by my house when I lived in Suginami Ward quite to the west some twenty+ years ago:


Finally, this last shot was at a small temple near my university: a flower in buddha's garden--(actually, I shot it with my Olympus C-755, not the E-300):

I took this one from the hill above my house in Fujino tonight at sunset. Sometimes scenic views don't need a lot of detail to be effective.

Thanks DMSP and Jason; I've uploaded another thread on Japan in the fall HERE. I should note that while the name Kannogawa sounds similar to that of the Kanagawa Prefecture, they're slightly different character combinations. Kannogawa is the small river visible in some of the pictures. The rest of the series can be seen at my photobucket site.
