    SunPak 211 Flash

I have an older Sunpak 211 bought in the 70's. The unit does have a hot shoe interface and I was wondering if it would work with my FZ30. The FZ30 Manual says that the trigger voltage needs to be based on ISO 10330 (Less than 24 volts). I don't know anything about this flash unit or what trigger voltage standard it complies with. I don't want to damage my cameras external flash interface.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this won't work I think I might want to get a SunPak 383. The kids indoor school events are coming up and I need a more powerful flash unit.

    JMK,

    Be very, VERY, VERY careful.

    According to:

    http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

there are (at least) two versions of this flash -- the Auto 211 and the Auto 211D. The former will kill your camera; the latter is probably OK, but you need to very that the voltages are within spec.

That looked like the Spec for the 221 and the 221D not the 211.

How do they go about measuring the trigger voltage????

Oops. Sorry 'bout that. Too many ones and twos.

If you're into voltmeters and such, check out

which gives instructions on how to measure the trigger voltage of your Sunpak two-one-one flash.

Thanks for the link. I measured the trigger voltage and it was 180vdc
Way to high for my FZ30. So I guess I will be looking for another flash unit.

I'm gonna put in a plug for sunpak 383 auto. It rocks my socks. You set it on auto mode and tell it which iso your using and the range you want it to light up and it does the rest. All you have to do is set your shutter speed to 1/60 and your fstop to whatever the flash says for that range and you're good to go. It also has a sync cable for my oldschool minolta srt 101 which is awesome.

    Flash

I have a DMC-FZ30, Brand new. I also have an older Vivitar zoom thristor 265 Flash. It saids on the back to use Vivitar SB-6 power supply only. Can anyone help me as to whether I can use this on my new camera.

    Thanks in advance. JohnT

Just from the number, I would say its not safe to use as it seems to be from a generation long before digital cameras.

you can see what I mean here
    http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

However Vivitar is pretty good about answering that type of question , if you email them.

Also here is how to check the voltage.

And the Idea of the 383 being more powerfull is a good plan.
