    From my recent trip to the old capital of Malta, Mdina:
















    Some background notes: Mdina (from the Arabic "Medina") is a very old city, so old that nobody knows exactly when it was built and by whom. The Romans already lived here and at the time it was three times its present size (as evinced by the Roman house which is now outside its walls). The Arabs decreased its size to make it more easily defendable. The earliest buildings are from around the 13th century, and one of these can be seen in the fourth photo. Mdina remained the capital of Malta until around 1571, when Valletta became the new capital city. The cathedral, shown in the first, second and last photo, was built after an earlier one was partially destroyed by a massive earthquake in 1693.

    Although I posted this on another thread, I still believe it's an interesting building--Luxor, Las Vegas, Nevada. There are also interior shots on my website. Another building with an interesting interior is the Forum Shops, which has "curved" escalators.
