The battery is fine I have taken over 500 photos on one charge.
That is using burst mode a good bit and I never review photos on the LCD.
I generally use the 2 minute power save feature and a battery can last all day in an area where you are taking lots of photos.
Just for use around home a battery can last for weeks.

    Lightbulb

The use of the LCD to review photos will discharge your batterie quite fast. When I'm doing a hike, I shoot a lot and I'm using the LCD, and the batterie lasts 4 hours and about 200 photos (jpeg fine).
I bought for about 20 euros a no name replacement batterie that is the same in quality than the Panasonic one. I'm very happy with it.

Practically in the same boat as you..... 200 photos @ 4 hours tops with LCD review. Guess I'll have to learn Gene's "no peeking" style to prolong battery life. Thanks Gene for the tip.

I do not know about it being a tip.. but the photos do not have much detail on the LCD so I just do not use it.

I really can fill a 1gb card with 1 battery, but that is using burst mode a good bit.
2 cards and 2 batteries I can take about 1000 photos a day in Yellowstone or some such place.

I really like these FZ cameras. I had a Kodak before these and there was not enough hours in a day to take a thousand photos. (slow cameras)

granted. the other reason why i do use the lcd often is when i want to review and erase some of the "not-so-good" pics as i only have a 512mb sd card for now and yet want to use the full 5mp res.

I can understand, but with the price of memory now you should put that on your list.
I have this card and can recommend it as a good fast card.

thanks again gene. my priority list is in fact the ridata 1gb card you showed plus another battery, perhaps the dps9000. but it seems that i can hold off for another spare (i have a non-oem spare) given that i can "shake off the habit" of using the lcd. hopefully i'll be able to purchase these items soon enough.... btw, the ridata 1gb card costs around $5 more here.
