Do you care for manual controls?

i really dont know much about photography but i surely want to have a good camera and not just go to a store and buy what i imeediately see. I'm still doing some research coz i'm not in a hurry.

General Usage

I'm still a student and will use the camera for taking pictures and some clips for my class presentations. I'm choosing between canon A400 and coolpix 3200. i've looked at some review sites and they say that it's ok for entry level cameras. What other cameras can you recommend?
