Canon owners have had very good results with the Tamy 28-75 f2.8 (as have Nikon owners). My only exposture to this lens was in a camera store, but it's on my list of lenses to buy. Very highly rated and praised by all who use it.

I've got to disagree with you George. Many XT owners have had problems with this lens. See my post (#12) in this thread:

    Lol

I don't think you guys did anything to help the OP decide.

(and neither did I, since I have ZERO experience with or knowledge of these two lenses)

You are correct... and I didn't say XT owners in particular, although their inclusion was implied. Odd that the primary complaints concerning this lens are from XT owners, but 20D owners (and pretty much everyone else) seem to be getting great results.

I was thinking that since this lens was introduced before the XT, it probably has not been tested by Tamron. But after reading that a re-chipped lens showed no improvement I'm starting to wonder what the problem is.

Anyway, it is unfortunate, as after trying this lens (on my D70) it is the bargain of the century, and will eventually find its way into my small collection. Maybe even replacing my 50mm f1.8.

No problems with my Tamron 28-75mm coupled with my XT. Its one lens I'll hang onto for a while. Sharp wide open and even better by f/3.5.

See... I knew that there was an XT owner out there using this lens successfully.

    Thanks Bluedog.

If the quality control on that lens is anything like the 24-70 macro, I would stay clear of it.
    The tammy is much better.

Apart from superior build quality, the Sigma is no better than the Tamron. QC is worse, so you're much more likely to get a bad copy of that lens.

Marcel - if you do decide to go with the Tamy - Move to the back of the line!

Its a hot commodity right now. I recieved my "in-stock" email from BH the other day [which I asked to be notified about a month ago] and clicked on the embedded link in the E-mail it was sold out. =) Sweet, I am so glad I decided not to buy this lens or I might have been a litte hot about that E-mail!
