which is better, FZ20 or Canon IS2

After my last camera drowned i figured i need a new and better one..
i rly dont know what to choose tho..
    My req are:

Sharp images as possible, good low light focusing, lots of manuals controls high zoom and low lag..

I thought about the FZ20 (or 30, im going to get the camera in a month or two so it might be out) or the IS2..

Other cameras i was looking at are: (tho cost a bit too much where i live and i rather not getting them unless considerably better then the other two)
    Olympus C8080
    Powershot Pro1
    Sony DSC-V3
    Coolpix 8800

Any advices will be very aprriciated alot!

    Camera Choice

    Tom -

A Fellow poster PhilR has a great rule of thumb that I would like to pass on to you. "...whenever the camera price of the camera you are interested in nears the $500 mark, you should also be considering the low price consumer dSLR cameras..."

With the price of the Pentax 1stDS kit hovering at the $640 mark, keeping in mind your specific requirements, it might be prudent to look at bit at dSLRs.

Here is a sample photo from the Pentax 1stDS with no flash at ISO 3200 and at about 100 feet away from the stage. I don't believe that any of the crop of UZIs or near UZI cameras can do that.

    Low Light Level Photos

    Ching-

There is a double key to taking photos like the one posted both above and attached to this post. You must have a lens with a wide enough apertaure that is not "too throttled down" when extended to its maximum zoom. AND the digital camera has to have high ISO capabilities.

The Panasonic FZ-5 has an excellent lens, so it covers that element easily. However, where the FZ-5 is held down is in the ISO category. The FZ-5 only goes as high as ISO 400. The photo above was taken at ISO 3200.

When your ISO is low, for example at ISO 400 setting, your shutter speed becomes very, very slow and hand holding the photo is just not possible.

Here is a photo taken during a performance of the Opera: Boris Gudenov at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. It was also taken without flash an at ISO 3200.
