Abundance of used Nikon equip?
You know me, always looking at the other camp! =)
But I wanted to start a conversation about the abundance of used nikon gear I always find online. I know that its online and maybe just maybe the people who sell used Nikon gear may be as a whole more advanced in todays technological world and have the means to sell it online ... but with that aside, the stores I look at sell many brands of used equipment. So, why is that I see more Nikon gear used for sale than I do Canon. There seems to be many reasons why this may happen, I don't really have an opinion on which one I think it is, thats why I was hoping to get a feel for what others think. Some of these may seem harsh, perhaps even like an insulting stab towards one group or the other. Believe me they are not meant to be insulting, I am not attacking any group. I am simply trying to figure out why I always find more Nikon gear for sale than Canon.
1. Nikon owners as a group upgrade their gear more often thus resulting in more used gear on the market?
2. Nikon owners are switching to other brands? (Don't kill me ... just laying this out there)
3. The number of used gear for sale in the market today is a function of the shear size of the Nikonian crowd; if Canon had the same number of users as Nikon, the amount of used Canon gear would be equivalent to that of Nikons.
4. The Nikon gear is as a whole more faulty than Canons.
5. More people who purchase equipment out of impusle buy Nikon, then upon the realization that their purchases were not warranted, they sell them.
6. Canonites seem to develop a more intimate relationship with their gear and try their hardest to never part with any piece of equip. sometimes they convert unused closets into shrines?
7. Canon gear sells quicker therefore harder to find on used markets?
Add your theorys or help me understand this...
I ask this only because I have an interest in Nikon DSLRs and I was thinking about picking up some used equipment sometime if the price is right to experiment with and if I could get used equipment cheaper than new.. why not.. but then I just started wondering why I always see way more used Nikon gear than Canon ... ? And thought it might make an interesting thread, please do not add to the conversation if you wish to bash the other camp, thats not what I am after so don't contribute if you can't hold your tongue.

on every pro board I go to Canon is always being sold/traded more often than Nikon. You will be hard pressed to find some of the rarer nikon gear, than the canon gear.

If this is correct, then it's good news for us Nikonians.
Some people have money to burn and buy all the latest cameras/lenses thinking that will cure all of thier shortcomings.
These forums are a great source of infomation, but I feel there is a lot of peer pressure to buy that "Super New Lens" because somebody else has taken a few good photos with it.
Of course when Canon introduced the 20D, a lot of people jumped ship and even more followed when the 350D came along.
I look on the auction sites for old AI-S lenses that DO NOT meter or focus with a D70, so they sell for peanuts compared to one that works in au*o.
All the best, Paul.
Kodak DC3200, CX6230, P850 + 0.7 W/A lens, P20 flash.

Nikon F6 coming soon.....

I have Nikon 35mm equipment and bought Canon digital. I feel my 35mm eq is excellent but as Nikon refuse to support their older lenses (as Pentax did and as Nikon does on the overpriced D1/D2) on their mainstream cameras that it was time for a brand change. I like my Canon XT and the fact it has 2 more megapixels than most Nikons.
I have no intention of selling my Nikon gear unless I get a very good offer.

Paul,
How is that going? Any luck?
P.S. Probably one of the best pictures you have posted (and that's saying a lot). A keepsake.

I am mostly using my N90s with my old lenses at the moment and haven't yet sent the film to be developed, but these old lenses make you stop and think before pressing the button.
Come to think of it, my D70 has fired off around 10 shots this month, I'd better start using it before it rusts up .
