This 3-car ferry does the 2-minute crossing between Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula. The historic pavilion from 1905 is in the background.

It cost $2.00 per car and driver, $1.00 for passengers or pedestrians.

The captain and first mate.

This is leaving Balboa Island.

Arriving on the peninsula, which has an amusement area.

Sydney International Boatshow- Photography Competition
Browsing through Australian Sailing Magazine I noticed an advert' for the Sydney International Boatshow at Darling Harbour, Sydney, 30JUL-3AUG09. Details of the Show are:
The Sydney International Boatshow 2009
Place: Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre & Cockle Bay Marina, Darling Harbour
Dates: 30JUL09-3AUG09
Cost: ?
Tickets: Available online at a discount at http://www.sydneyboatshow.com.au
Browsing through the website I came across details of a photographic competition here:
http://www.sydneyboatshow.com.au/act...ery/index.html
The basic criterion for entry is that the photo must be of your favourite recreational boating moment in New South Wales.
Two of the pro' photographers (http://www.afrancolini.com/ , & http://www.sealaunay.com/ ) for Australian Sailing Magazine, http://www.isubscribe.com.au/title.cfm?ID=253, will be the judges for the competition.
The sailing photography in AS mag', and other magazines by the same publishers, is totally awesome!
I encourage all interested photographers (particularly those that have recreational boating photos shot in NSW!) to enter, for details check out the Sydney Boatshow photo-gallery link above.
cheers,

Hey Smokey & Nodpete, nice shots!
Smokey I particularly liked your 2nd shot looking down at the marina from a height, although I also liked your 3rd shot too of the marina and coastline.
Here are a couple of boats from Blackwattle Bay:
An aluminium runabout:

Wow, I would love to show some of these photos on the boatingpotd.com page.
If any of you folks would like to submit them there, I need good high-quality material.
Lots of boating folks just sending me snapshots, I need to show them what real photos are!
Thanks
Bill
