I hope someone can help. The following is the sequence of events which took up most of yesterday.

First, I attempted to follow the large page of instructions that accompanied the camera. Not much of a relationship between the 5900 described and the 5900 that I had purchased. I reset the computer to the configuration before installation of software.

Started again:

-Installed Pictureproject +updates to v.1.5.2 onto the Solo Gateway laptop with Windows ME, 30 GB harddrive.

-Disabled Norton Anti-virus

-Connected the "fully charged" Nikon coolpix 5900 to the USB port on the laptop. Laptop requested drivers. I turned off camera. I found the files compressed on the ME install CD. Copied them to the desktop, extracted them, then dragged them to C:\Windows\System. Removed camera from pc. Rebooted the computer.

-Plugged in the 5900 to the USB Port, then turned on the camera power. Got a notice that the computer could not recognize the camera.

-Opened Control Panel/Scanner and Camera.
Selected Add Device; the 5900 was not present so I had to follow the alternate sequence to add the camera. Rebooted again.

Same problem. Is there a specific set of instructions that actually works for the Coolpix 5900?
