85mm F1.8?
If you can get close, 50mm F1.8 or perhaps 50mm F1.4?

I'm half and half:
Canon A40 and A620 for point and shoots
Nikon FTn and D50 for SLRs
-
One is a preview, the other reads more like a press release.
I'm talking an actual review. DC Resource is one of the few sites that lists upcoming cameras, was curious if Pentax has been in touch...
-
Noticed it wasn't listed for December. Starting shipping already. Any idea if Pentax will have one ready for review come January?

Flash on, meter on person and crank down/fiddle with flash output to low if you want to do it manually...
Night portrait might be the auto setting of choice if the camera is smart enough (slow...

Canon A710IS
6x zoom and in-your-face macro. Here's a pic from another A-series:

I'd say Canon A710IS or Fuji F30
-
I second the A6x0. Heavy on the photo quality and manual options which seem to be two of your big requirements.

Have had the camera for a month or so. Good shutter speed (would never have been able to capture rocket with A40) good color, good dynamic range, low purple fringing... The list goes on. Great...

Nope, at least from the I perspective.
For 99% of the people 99% of the time, both will give exactly the same results.

Well, what would you be using it for? Real-world price difference is $50-$70 BTW.
Informal tests have been done:
610 appears to be a little more (1/3-2/3 stop) light sensitive. Good for...
-
Actually, the 620 produces images with less noise at ISO400 than the 610, but there are a couple of catches based on informal reviews from folks, no real formal reviews yet.
As ISO400, 620...

610/620 has AF assist beam and unlimited movie length, up to 1 gig (same restriction on S2)
610 has the same speed in continous shooting mode as the S2 at 2.4 fps. The 620 is slower because of...

Here is a 610 comparision at 50 versus 400:

Nice shot of the same subject as ISO400 and ISO50:

Not bad for a point and shoot, not bad at all! Remember this is for...

Go over to one of the "other" digital camera boards, www.dpreview.com and do a search in the canon forum. Bunch of people with 620s with photos up. One with a comparision at various ISO settings. ...

60fps for 320x240, 30 fps for 640x480
Expensive for a compact? Poor in terms of features/functions? In comparision to what in the class?
Initial photos from owners suggest ISO400 noise levals...

Same boat, been looking for a while to replace my A40. Other than IS, the 610/620 appears to on paper and initial images to meet all of my needs for a very reasonable cost.

Other forums will be worse, hehe.

OMG! Full review with pics now! :D
Most importantly, how is the noise and purple fringing with a full-sized image zoomed in to 100% on the computer?
Tell us more about the IS not being as...

AF FOCUS ASSIST LAMP! YES!!! I am buying this camera unless there are some major problems with noise/purple fringing. It literally hits all of my needs in a digital camera! WOOHOO!

AF assist lamp AF assist lamp AF assist lamp...PLEASE!?

Should look for exactly the same thing in the digital world.
Finding a camera with a shutter speed of 15+ seconds and probably 30+ seconds shouldn't be a problem at your price point.
As far as...
