The S3 is already larger than other cams and portability isn't its strong point, so I would gladly sacrifice an even slightly larger sized cam and have the 1/1.8 in there as well.
-
I'm assuming he meant to write "S3" instead as he owns an S3 hehe. In answer to the previous question - most matters concerning S2 can be applied to S3 as well.
-
I'm not sure if my S3 has been doing it all along or just lately, but this happens in like 1 out of 15 or 20 shots perhaps (last couple of days, I was just outdoors taking a bunch of random shots). ...

My understanding is .....
The default setting is evaluative, not too sure what that is.
Spot is selecting a favored point in the frame for proper light exposure.
Center-weighted automatically...

JTL - the Peterson book you recommended, think I might have to get that one. :D I think he has like 2 or 3 other books as well right? One of them having to do with digital photography, I've read he...

Thanks for the itemized response. I'll be more cognizant of where and how I take the photos from now. Might have to look into some filters too heh.
Another question - this time about digital...

JTL (and other photo experts), got another one for ya. I keep having problems with blown highlights with the S3. I don't think this was such a big problem with my old S400 (or maybe I'm just more...

Got it - thanks for the thorough explanation dude.

I have 2 issues with the S3 - maybe the S3 is supposed to behave this way, but I thought I'd bounce it off you S3 experts anyway lol.
1. I set the mode to Av for an indoor shot with flash. First...

Try looking on the plug itself - if there is a range, then all you need is an adapter piece.

This is a photo I took of the parking lot outside of my workplace. It was relatively sunny when I captured the photo. I set the contrast to...
-
To clarify this tip (not asking a separate question) - do you mean to move the contrast setting all the way to the right so it's darker? It would be more intuitive if Canon had the left side as the...

Setting the ISO as low as possible gives the best possible image quality, but I've read on a couple of occasions, setting the ISO to 100 rather than the lowest gives the best dynamic range.

Hey Chuck, when are you guys coming out with the next Walker episode? Could you post up some pics of you doing a spinning heel kick, with a step by step tutorial? :D
In regards to your question...

Has anyone tried out the S3 Shortcourses book on www.shortcourses.com? It seems some people on dpreview are praising the S3 book, but part of that might have to do with the fact that there aren't...

Thanks for the link. I've played around with this program for a few minutes. So this program retains exif info, right? Is it possible to see this info within the program? If this program keeps...
-
Thanks for the link. I've downloaded that program, installed it and played around with it for a bit but I still can't figure out how to take a canned watermark image and overlay it onto a photo in...
-
I understand that retaining exif data after heavy post processing is somewhat meaningless, but what if all you wanted to do was crop, resize, or add a copyright watermark to the image? I tried...

Yea, the line was busy all day long, so I went the chat route during my lunch break. They gave me an RMA number without too much trouble, don't know why they restrict that on the web form. Will...
-
Man, I can't get any breaks. I just tried to RMA through Newegg.com and it states the S3 is not covered by their RMA policy and to contact the manufacturer (Canon). This is crazy, part of the...

Hey folks, I'd ordered the S3 from Newegg last week and the box was in acceptable condition, but there were some dents along the side and corner of the box. Then, I'd noticed that warranty form was...
