go into menu, then FLASH ADJUST (set it to manual), then you'll be able to adjust the level of the flash.
I second this one... great learning tool and the author puts it in terms that you'll understand.
I have had great results with moon shots with the following settings...

Exposure Time: 1/1250
taken today at almost full zoom (no TC) with monopod... used Noiseware to remove some noise.
Focal Length: 72.0mm
Digital Zoom: 1.760x
Exposure Time: 0.010 s (1/100)
