I own the Sigma 18-200 and I'm very happy w/ it (I'm new to photography though, so I don't exactly have standards I guess).

I put UV filters on both my lenses, I find it MUCH easier to clean dirt and dust off of a filter rather than the lenses.

Wow what a thread...and no...Sensors arn't everything...in many situations the Lenses are THE most important part of a camera. Reason is they do the work, whereas the body just controls the light.

Well after a little reading through a randomish thread here at the forum, it appears the AF-D's are pro glass, and the AF-G's are Consumer glass.

All good points, but still, 899 is the d70's MSRP, and I've found it at a few places for OVER 100 buck LESS THAN MSRP....

What exactly do the G and D in AF-G and AF-D for Nikon cameras stand for? Are these definitions for Nikon's alone? Which is better?

Nice thoughts, I myself am about to buy the d70s very soon, but it's still keeping me guessing why people want this d50, it's a downgraded version of the d70s, but it can be found for DEAD similar...
