You can use the scene mode "Kids and pets", this mode makes your camera use the hyperfocal distance, so it won't use the autofocus.
These cameras share the same sensor, the difference is the lens, size and controls.
The lens used on A620 is better than the one used on SD550.

You must use a high ISO setting, like 200 or 400.
I would try to connect the camera to another pc with windows xp and no canon software, there is no need to install canon drivers and applications.
What do you think about testing if the manual focus feature is really usable in normal photos and macro mode ?
I own a A80 and think this feature is barely usable only in macro mode.
I own a Canon A80 and find too much dificult to use the manual focus feature in a 1.5'' lcd. I've already tried an A75 and had the same impression. :mad:
