Nice ones Faisal. I also think a little softer light would work but more importantly, raising the light higher on the face would be more flattering. Lighting from such a low angle creates shadows...

Nice shots Don. That's one happy kid. And I love the hair. :)

While I love my 70-200 F4 L IS, there's a big difference between the DOF (and to some extent bokeh) that you can achieve with that lens vs. either of the 50mm lenses you started this thread with. The...

I still think you're super, man. ;)

Very nice pics Viky and congrats on the new gear. I was bit unwhelmed by both the 100-400 L and 400 L, though it looks like you got a nice copy of the latter. For me, I love the 300 F4 L IS - talk...

Well the 40D > 50D was less than 12 mos. if I recall. So "cycles" aren't written in ink, eh, pen, I mean stone.

Nick - I use armature wire when fishing line won't do the job (i.e., too much spinning). It is stiff and comes in different gauges: http://www.dickblick.com/products/armature-wire/ Obviously you'll...

$389.95 - new US - http://www.photo4less.com/pd-productid-1897-k-sigma_270101_sigma_telephoto_70mm_f28_ex_dg_macro_autofocus_lens_for_canon_eos.htm
I wanted a wider lens that could also do...

Well there is a difference between spacial resolution (dropping pixels when resizing a still image) and temporal resolution (dropping video frames), but yes, you hit the issue exactly: dropping 6...

Well FWIW I've been testing the Sigma 70 macro all week and am keeping it. Yes there's some CA wide open on highlight transitions but it's much sharper and much better contrast than my 85 1.8 was at...
-
Well it's purely aesthetics/personal preference. There's no technical advantage at all. To me, when you have those extra six frames per second (30p/60i), you get video. People will argue forever that...

Yeah Rockaway/Denville area. (I'm moving there to be close to my sister & niece.) Once I get settled in, we'll get together for a shoot. :)

Dude - I'm moving to NJ July 1st. I'm only about 1 hr from PA. Wanna come visit? ;)

I haven't tried it, but my understanding is it is a mess going from 30p>24p. You can go the other way no problem. And supposedly, even 60i>24p is doable. But 30p>24p is to be avoided if possible.

I owned the Sigma 105 for a while. Definitely a nice lens, though my copy was not as sharp as the 70 wide open. Re: the Canon 100 f2, I've always liked your pics with that lens. I'm leaning towards...

I saw that too but it seems to be much more limited than it was on my 85 1.8. I really only see it on the wheels of the BMW shot. And - even at f 2.8 - the 85 1.8 still has weaker contrast and isn't...

Couldn't resist doing an edit on that last shot (luv the look of the new beemers :) )

So with all the product shots I've been doing I've been wanting a good macro lens. I've also been a little disillusioned with my 85 1.8 due to extreme CA and lack of contrast at wider apertures. So I...

Definitely makes the video feature (much) more useable... I'm still holding out for 24p though. ;)

The only prints I put up on the walls are architecture & flower shots for that reason...
