This is only my second post, and some of my first ever photos. Ive just purchased a D40 kit.

a few pix taken on these days.

not the best (speaking of my shots quality) but for what's worth. comments and especially critical comments are welcome.

on the last two pix i could not decide which one looks more properly exposed?

Here is another pic I took, this weekend with my D-40. An tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gintaras hope to improve them over time.

This was taken on the hill above porthmadog, Wales. Early morning around 7:30am

Nice pictures, Dominic. Welcome to the forum. The second is my favorite. Beautiful colours and composition.

Gintares, I really like the second picture. Very interesting shot. Exposure is spot on and the colours are very nice.

The first doesn't really work imo. The reflection is not really sharp. It might have been better if you had shown something other than the reflection; e.g. the shore in front of the reflection (if possible) or the subject that was being reflected.
In that way you sort of place the reflection in a context. In my opinion, this is is absolutely needed for a reflection shot to work (unless the reflection is of exceptional quality).

The last shot. I think the lower is more correctly exposed. It is brighter, without having blown out detail in the clouds (exposed more to the right of the histogram)
It is hard to tell, though, because I wasn't there myself. To add to that, I think I like the first one better, despite being exposed less correctly. The slightly darker exposure brings out the colours of the land a bit better.
