Here is a balloon message I released a few months ago. It headed off into the sunset. I wonder where it landed?

Sunrises should go into the same category shouldn't they? I took these at Myrtle Beach, SC a couple months ago with my Panasonic FZ20. I've heard complaints that the images look too dark, but found that it was their monitor's gamma that was too dark. These look the best on a calibrated monitor.

A Pre-Monsoon desert sunset...
...Taken while listening to the sound of lightly rolling thunder.
We look forward to this time of year. For the next 6 weeks, the sky is spectacular as temperatures plummet from 115 to 105.

George, that is an amazing sky! Very nice :)
Thanks. This time of year it's a love hate thing. Love the sunsets and cloud formations, and hate the 115 degrees F it takes to generate them. ;)Quote:

I love all the sunset pics!
I had to reduce the resolution and it "blew up". How do you fix that?
WOW!!! I have been blown away for the last hour. These photos are great!! I'll post a few of mine. This one was taken in Bath, North Carolina. It's the oldest town in NC. Taken with a Sony DSC-P200 in auto mode.
Another one from Bath, NC
This one was taken in New Bern, NC
Same pic with no zoom.
Here is one taken from the inland side of Atlantic Beach in North Carolina
Well thanks for putting up with the new guy. I guess I got carried away! This last one was taken last year in Palm Desert, California from my apartment balcony.
It would be appreciated if you would post pictures in a little smaller format. One of our contributors suggested something around 800 x 600, depending on your sensor aspect ratio, which seems to work ok on a 1024 x 768 displayQuote:

Love the pictures.
Just trying to be helpful
Thanks for the suggestions and advise on posting. I will attempt to edit the past posts and I'll try to do better in the future!Quote:

Filey on my holidays last week
Thanks back. It just makes viewing a lot more enjoyable if we can take in the whole scene without having to scroll around.Quote:

Here's one overlooking the Sound in North Carolina. Only using my little Fuji A340, but I still love the shot...
I took this a couple of weeks ago during a post thunderstorm sunset :-)
Very beautiful sunset photos guys. Not sure if mine can compare to some of yours, but I'll post 'em anyways :) . This was taken last summer, at a park called Deception Pass in Washington State. Camera: my Pentax Optio S4 (I've been pleased with how well this small, compact camera has performed for me)

i like the colors in this one. it's really neat how the image is divided in half by the colors, and how the balloon is directly in the middle right on the center line formed by the clouds.Quote:

Nice beach, excellent surfing (so I'm told), full of life. A nice place to spend an evening or two.
Once again, I am totally blown away by all the talent to be found here. While everyone else seems to have romantic beach scenes, this one was taken one evening after a very long day of move-in (I'm a residence hall director). I was pooped and had to grocery shop before getting to relax. This shot was taken from the parking lot of our super WalMart! :)

I spent several minutes parked in the middle of the back half of the lot just standing against my car shooting away. Amazing how something like this can rejuvenate a person.
Taken with a Kodak DX7590.

Very nice & atmospheric. Its amaizing what images can ge gained in the most normal of places. It takes a good eye to spot them though. Every picture has a corner & around every corner there's a picture - the fun's finding them. Hmm.... if I can work out how to add a sign off message I might use that. ;)
yeah one time right while i was pulling into the parking lot at work i noticed a decent size sun halo (looks like a rainbow encircling the sun). i parked a little off to the side and started snapping away. i saw tons of people just walking by and not even noticing what was right above their heads in plain sight! all they had to do was tilt their heads up slightly and they would see it! i also had to make up some excuse why i would be delayed for quite a while before arriving for work :DQuote:

Sorry to post a none sunset on here but ReF is this what you meant. I took it in Yosemite park at Easter. It was frosty & I assumed it was a result of ice crystals in the air causing some kind of diffraction ring. There were feint rainbow colours in reality but my little olly C40Z could only just capture them. Also tried the signature George thanks.

that's exactly what causes them and of the two i've seen, they've been on the pale side as well. the weird thing was that the second halo i saw was on a hot day and caused by what looked like cirrus clouds (ice) and a bunch of contrails. it's a good thing i decided to bring the camera along that day, as no one would expect to see something like that in the middle of a hot day.
Lopez Island, San Juan Archipelago, Washington State. Taken with a Panasonic FZ20.
Those Sun halos are VERY cool. In the Canadian Prairies, we'd get these things called "Sun Dogs" that are very similar. You'd get a semi-circle on both sides of the sun (often quite far apart) usually in the winter months, when ice crystals are abundant in the air. But I've actually seen one of those here in BC this past summer, it was a strange occurrance, and I REALLY wish I had taken my camera along with me as it was DURING a sun set too! :(
Anyways, I took these two pics from my backyard last fall. There was this really odd shaped, tall cloud shooting up into the sky that lit up in a really cool way - it almost looked like it was a flame in the sky. I've added a second pic that's zoomed out a bit more to give some perspective on the size of it.

Here's a plain ole' cloudless and windy Newport Beach, California sunset.
Should try to catch one with a pier and some of the big surf we've been having lately.
Here's with some color filtering and contrast, interesting little bed the sun is burning for itself. http://FLASHME.smugmug.com/photos/34174429-L-1.jpg
