confused on buying a new lens for my D5100

yeah tamron lens are available in India also...anyways thanks for the suggestion I ll check out that option too...

The 55-200 VR is old but is great. It's may be one of the best from Nikon.
In Australia you can get it new at $200 and lower; I doubt I can get any Tamron or Sigma anywhere near that price.
