SONY 50mm f/1.4 radical response

I been struggling with my SONY 50mm f/1.4, that's about a year and a half old.

To duplicate the issue, to me, seems pretty simple, yet ... I am having trouble getting the "repair facility" to do so. It has been there and back, once, so far.

Basically it goes like this:

1. you put the lens on the DSLR camera
2. turn the camera on
3. with the drive mode selection, choose Hi-speed shutter
4. Choose "M" mode
5. select aperture to f/10
6. select shutter speed of 1/60
7. select ISO = 800
8. lift the built in flash
9. Focus and fire roughly five consecutive shots.

If your lens is acting like mine is ... instead of five roughly identical exposures, you will have several over-exposed ... the first one easily not right and then one of more of the rest. The problem sems to be tardy response by the aperture, itself. I do not get this response from my 17059 or any other lens, for that matter. Just this PRIME.

I get so tired of the back and forth, with these kind of things.

I will try this when I get home and see if I get the same response.

Just checked mine on A mode and M mode per your settings and it's consistent with both the pop-up flash and hvl-f58am (Sony 50mm F/1.4 SAL-50F14, Japan made).

Ryan, I figured it might be ... I think this lens has a sticky aperture ... the blades just will not "fly" shut ... they ... stick. Hopefully, others don't see this issue in a long, long time. I just can't believe I'm having it with the lens only under 2 years old and really not used all that much. Maybe two-three hundred actuations over its life?

I have re-read this after printing out the settings. I have the Maxxum 50mm prime, not the Sony (can't afford it). Don't think that I will be official comparison. Sorry, my mistake.

Thanks, Joe ... yeah, the more you get into it ... the more fun you come across. I probably should have been a lot more "focused" on the use of the lens when I initially bought it. Not that it would have shown a problem, out of the box, but by not rotating through my lens-cycle an leaving it sit quietly in the bag ... it never saw the light of day, long enough to make the problem known. Warranty expired ... and now it is out of pocket.

Unfortunately, it seems SONY cannot duplicate it, either ... and THAT is a real problem. You cannot fix it if it does not appear to be broken. :cool:

It doesn't take much oil on the blades to slow the diaphragm down.
Operating the diaphragm lever usually confirms whether they are sticking.

When SONY doesn't seem to know that, Peter. Where does that leave us?

That is quite pathetic... :rolleyes:

All I can say is ... I hope that doesn't happen with my Sony 50mm f/1.4. I can't test it out yet, because no flash.
