A different lens cap

After buying a low-profile Circular Polarizer (CP) filter, I needed a different kind of lens cap for the ø67mm filter, because low-profile filters do not have any filter threads to attach the regular lens cap to.

With the ø77mm filter ring, I purchase a slip-on cap. The problem with that is that is can be pulled off pretty easily, but it works.

This OPTECH Flip cap offers a more usable idea, but prohibits the use of the lens hood. I find it handy for indoor shots. :)

Does the 17-50 vignette with a normal filter on it? Or just when you have a CPL and a UV filter stacked?

No, only when stacked ... it takes a UWA (10-18mm capable) lens to pick up on a CP with regular thread depth on an APS-C sensor. On a FULL Frame ... the 16-35mm lens would see it, also.

A bit off topic and I think it's been addressed here before, I presume I should be getting a CPL for the 70-200 as I will be outside with it often is that correct? and should I get one to fit and then some jump rings to take it down for other lenses or is it just to big a filter to be practical for other uses?

Yup, I have a 77mm Hoya CPL and a step ring set for all my lenses.

It can save hundreds of dollars in filter expense ... but you sacrifice the use of the lens hood for the smaller diameter lenses ... that's why I suggest that you get a matching ø77mm screw-on rubber lens hood using it like that.

But if I have the 77mm CPL and use it on the 70-200 I can use the hard hood correct? or will it not thread with the CPL on?

i have a thin CPL. i'll never buy one again. biggest mistake i ever made.

The ø77mm-thin works well on the SIGMA 10-20mm f/4-5.6 UWA when I have it dialed back to 10-15mm. The standard CP shows up and it is a true vignette.

Everything has its use, somewhere ...
