I keep chasing those elusive kingfishers. They are always skittish and just a little too far away. As i was watching this fellow in a stiff wind he suddenly dropped off the branch and i just barely caught him in the frame. One day you little bugger...
Out on a great wildflower trail in NW Georgia this afternoon. Most of the Shirley Miller trail is on a boardwalk you are not supposed to leave to protect the plants. This is probably an area of 4-5 acres with an amazing concentration of flowers in the spring. The Virginia Bluebonnets were probably a few days past peak. I did most of my work with the 50-200 since I was glued to the boardwalk. Caught a few lucky shots of a swallowtail feeding.

Maybe a lucky spot but a very nice capture. I didn't realise the 50-200 worked that well at close ups.
The 50-200 does okay close-up, but you are limited to a minimum distance of about 4 feet at 200mm. This works pretty well for butterflies, although this one was probably 8-12 feet away. It was also handy since I could not get off the boardwalk, so being able to get good shots of the flowers needed the reach. The boardwalk was actually nice since I could lay down without getting in the soft dirt. For a close up tele I prefer the 70-300 as it is easier to handle and seems to work just as well in that mode.
Yup, I regret that my longest current telephoto is 45mm. I'll have to chase very apathetic butterflies.
They slow down of you find them in the morning. Or carry a can of freon....

Took a walk with the 50mm macro looking for some dogwoods. We have a few of the pink variety in the area.
This nest will be a bit more difficult to get good shots of the young. It is 50-60 feet up in a dead pine tree in the woods. Had the Bigma on the monopod, but since it was pointing at a steep angle I needed to put a big plastic planter under it to be able to get to the viewfinder.
