Thanks for your compliments. :) I took the picture from the top of the Wendelstein shortly after the clouds released their hold of it. :D Being the only one up there at that time, I basically "owned" that mountaintop. I will post some more pics in my winter-thread later on (as soon as I find the time to do so that is).
P.S.: That is a great picture, Vio1. :)
This didn't help me very much, I had to Google it...
"The Wendelstein Observatory is situated on the summit of Mount Wendelstein, a prominent, 1848 m high mountain in the bavarian Alpes. It is operated by the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Munich."
Now I know. :D
njoy, that shots beautiful.
Did you use a filter or anything to get the sun to become a star shape like that?
njoy_az used an aperture of f/20. Such a small aperture will automatically create those "star-shapes" from any bright light source -- the sun, moon, streetlights, Christmas lights, etc. Great shot!
Sorry, I thought I had mentioned it. :o I only made it to the Wendelstein house (1724m) though, as the trail to the summit is still heavily snowed in (and thus closed).
cdr116:
I did not use any filters (aside from a UV filter for protection) nor did I do any pp other that raw conversion and resizing. Mother Nature was just very kind to me that day. :D
Here is my father-in-law's plantation on the southern tip of Taiwan. It was taken in the summer. I guess I am just wishing for another summer's day now that it hasn't stopped raining for almost three weeks straight.:(
This is called the 'Clock tower'. Its one of the oldest landmarks in Dubai and one of the few that remain from the old Dubai though I wonder how long it will stand...

awesome shot Faisal!
I agree. Nice colors :)
zmikers: What kind of plants is your father-in-law cultivating?
Actually he has a massive vegetable garden with everything you can think of, but what you see being cultivated in the photo are "si gua" which is a type of sponge cucumber. It's actually very interesting. It's good to eat but also used in making the original loofah. Anyways, I thought it was interesting. Being Canadian, I see so many things everyday that interest me here (even after 6 years). Her father thinks I'm a bit wierd but he appreciates my interest I guess:p
Nice shot faisal. I used to live in Abu Dhabi a long time ago, and still remember some of the old landmarks. Keep on posting.
Here's one to keep up with the renewed animal theme:

I played around with the contrast and saturation to get this effect....
Days of rain. Just messing with a tiny toy fox (about 2 in tall) and a small flashlight.

Can anyone guess where the focus point is?
Here is my addition to this thread for today: :)

P.S.: Great photos you have added lately. I especially like AdamW's fox for its lighting and focus. Thanks for the info, zmikers. :)
Nothing special....Just had to take this picture as lots of these small plants are popping up all over the place after the rains we had a couple of week back...[it usually rains 3-4 times in a year]...this one though came out quite well...

nice picture njoy_az, what flower is that???
St Basil's Cathedral, Moscow.
Wow, that's a great shot. I love the light.
Cheers. I got lucky with the lighting really. Lucky because it was a beautiful day that day. But that was the third time going to red square. We were there the night before, that morning and then I made my mates come back with me a third time as I realized where the sun was going to set and knew that I would never get that chance again as we were heading up north the next day. The shots from the other times during the day just don't compare.:)
We're all screwed next week... At least the men are, anyway.
