Actually I went with the 5d2, but I'm still not convinced I made the right decision.
I had a difficult time deciding between the 7d and 5d2, but the 40D does everything I need in a 1.6X crop camera, whereas the 5d2 improves upon several things that I didn't like about the 5d.
The main thing that was holding me from getting the 5d2 was what Canon did (or rather didn't do) with the AF system. I've only had the 5d2 for a few days, but surprisingly it feels much more responsive and the shot to shot time seems faster than with the 5d. Its still no sports camera, but I'm much happier with the responsiveness of this camera compared with my old 5d. So far I'm loving it, but I'm still in the Honeymoon periord. ;)
And I love the live view for shots like this.....
5d2, 17-40, ND grad, 2 stop ND grad....(12 degrees F, not including the windchill factor - I couldn't feel my fingers for about 30 minutes after this shot :()....

Oh wow. You Almost made brave the cold, but then i remembered i really hate the cold.
I presume you sold your 5d ? If you don't mind me asking, how much did you unload it for ?
I've been thinking of the same route, dropping the 5D, for either a 7D/5Dm2, but i'll probably end up with a d2 because i'm getting addicted to brokeh.
Might even unload my 70-200 F4L, for a 24-70 2.8 / 85 1.8 / 100 2.8 - Whichever, i'd use them all pretty much for portraits with brokeh in mind.
Edit: i really like that picture, i think you should work more on it and send me a print as a thank you for erm, im not sure what but i'll eventually do something worth a thank you!
Congrats michael......and love that shot...that rock in the foreground is something I've never seen...awesome!!!
truly a great shot Michael, that deserves a good rest

Thanks guys -
Csae - My 5d is at Canon right now getting some fixes done so it'll be ready to sell soon. Mine has about 18k clicks. I'll probably list it between 1k and 1.2k on POTN.
Nice shot Turn.
Stunning, Michael.
Cool one, Turn. Reminds me of the famous one by Man Ray, but yours has a sensuality that's really powerful:

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
It's been quite a while since I posted any images. I've moved and that move has sapped my motivation to get out and take photographs. There aren't any mountains here to speak of, and that is my passion. I guess I needed to move away to realize my love for the mountain west. It's taken me some time to get motivated to get out and take any kind of photo. I finally made a trip out the the Coast and took this one right at sunset.

Yea, I remember you saying that moving to NC was a big shock to you. Have you tried any ocean or stream shots? The spring should bring some nice opportunities.
One of the tricks of photograhy (to me anyway) is to try to find beauty in the ordinary. I bring my camera everywhere feasible.
Check out this guys shots on Flickr (he's one of my favorites at finding the beauty in everyday life)...

Elisha, this one's a total stunner. How do you create such a soft and fuzzy effect on the child's face? This is something I've historically struggled with - my shots of kids usually end up very stark and lack the subtlety of this fantastic image. I'm very much an amateur and just looking to learn. I have an XSi with the kit 18-55 and a 55-250 lens.
Here's a recent one with the XSi and kit lens.
