Photos from the Fuji S-700
We would like to start a Fuji S-700/S-5700 Photo Gallery. It will be just like the very sucessful Fuji S-6000 Photo Gallery. Besides offering an area to post your S-700/S-5700 photos, we hope to establish a workshop environment as well, where tips on using this great camera can be exchanged, and some real learning about photography in general can be gained. Why, you might ask? The S-700/s-5700 is a true Pho Enthusiast/Family Camera. It is selling right near at the $(US) 200.00 level and we think that this thread can be a great source of information about the S-700/S-5700 and increasing your photographic skills.
Not only is this great camera inexpensive (I got mine from www.buy.com for $(US) 197.00 by using a coupon) but the the Fuji S-700/S-5700 is also a very photographically capable camera as well. Yes, the word "little" does apply to this camera The S-700/S-5700 is pleasantly smaller that the Fuji S-6000fd, the Canon S-2IS, the S-3IS, and the S-5IS, as well as smaller than the Sony H-2, H-5, H-7, and H-9 ultrazooms.
Yes, the S-700/S-5700 is a 7mp, 10X optical zoom camera that has ISO settings all the way up to ISO 1600, with a very capable video mode, and a wonderful Macro and Super Macro mode. It is easy to use, and Jeff will be publishing the first professional review of this great little camera at the end of June.
So let's take a look at some great S-700/S-5700 photos! I have written three books on digital cameras and been a Digital Camera Instructor for a decade and I have been very impressed with the S-700/S-5700 camera. In the next post you will find my very first photo right after I took it out of the box and did nothing more than install the AA size batteries. This photo was taken in the Program-Auto Mode, with Auto Flash. The Flash on the S-700/S-5700 is what Fuji calls I-Flash. That means that the S-700/S-5700 automatically reads the existing light in your photo environment and then adds just enough flash to act as a fill flash. That way you see no harsh shadows behind my husband's head. Those harsh shadows are subtly reduced or eliminated. That is another nice feature.
Our group will continually add photos to this thread, along with details on how we setup and took the posted photos. I sincerely invite other Fuji S-700/S-5700 owners to join in and add even more photos. Thanks in advance for posting your S-700/S-5700 photos and becoming a part of this very active group where sharing is the norm and learning is a great fringe benefit.
The S-700/S-5700 Confusion
The camera is sold in the USA as the Fuji S-700. However, overseas it is sold as the S-5700. The camera was designed to be an upgrade to the S-5200/S-5500. It does not use the same lens as the S-6000/S-6500. Rather it uses a new lens that is remarably sharp and has excellent resolution with a focal length of 38 to 380mm, expressed in 35mm terms.
I needed a quick picture of my Olympus E-300 with the slave flash mounted on it this evening, so I used the S-700 with the Fuji Intelligent flash at a distance of about 9 inches. The photo was perfectly exposed and very sharp indeed. The S-700 was able to read the ambient light and to only supply the amount of flash required for the photo. Rather impressive.
Thanks for posting, Paul.
