Well spotted. Yes, I did shoot in RAW. I'm a reluctant post processor - I want eye popping images but on the other hand, I still want to retain the natural vision as I saw it. Think of it, there's no real reason why I should be concerned too much.

D70Fan, Thanks to you too for the tip. This is the only way I learn, and slowly I learn, since I never attend any formal photography lesson.
I do have a lot of simliar 'playable' images that I shot last October on my trip to the country.

Ply-able (i.e. flexible). In an image it means that you can change the picture to evoke many emotions. I seem to find one of these in every 50 (or so) shots. Sometimes you have to simply crop the image to see the emotional part. Sometimes you won't see it until it's printed.

Just for giggles try to get your hands on the Ansel Adams books. The Camera, The Negative, The Print. I know it sounds like film based images, but (IMHO) the rules and information are as relevent today as 50 years ago.

Tim, if you shoot raw and use capture nx2 it will read the in camera adjustments so there is no pp required. Crank up the contrast and sharpening and you'll get the best of both worlds. That works for me anyway.

I have to say there is something to be said of the thought process in Fujis Jpeg engine cos I don't touch those files and I couldn't think of a single thing to do to them if I did want to. They are as close to perfect sooc as I've ever seen. But in doing that I also accept that when I screw up a shot its pretty much unrecoverable.

I think you'll find Rooz doesn't really shoot in vivid.

For what it's worth I'm always told I don't have enough contrast but I find that's my style and what I like. I shoot in Raw and process in lightroom with the setting Nikon camera standard. I start pulling sliders or manually tweaking the curves tool on any shot I post.

I don't like what vivid does to my reds and so haven't shot vivid in 4 years.

No, I shoot in standard and adjust contrast and sharpening up. With the d800e I also have a awb adjustment towards magenta. You're right, vivid mode destroys reds on the nikon. Another point for the fuji. lol

Vivid on anything, camera, DVD player, PC monitor, VCR, or TV,destroys reds. Digital anything seems to have this thing about 'blooming' reds. Or is it our eyes that perceive it this way?

Another amazing shot. I love the composition including the framing with the doorway but I just don't like such contrasty processing, each to their own and cudos for pushing your own boundaries Tim.
