Within a few miles I've got a backyard, sandy beach, a derelict industrial "river", a couple creeks, a wetlands, suburbs, a quite city, botanic gardens, zoo.
Within 50 miles I can add low hills, rock outcrops, pathetic waterfalls, wine country, short cliffs, rocky beach, derelict mines and native wildlife.
Within 500 miles I can add iconic world heritage ancient mountain ranges, world renowned caves, outback farms, an extinct volcano, tuna industry ...
Geez when I start to think about this stuff I haven't even scratched the surface of topics. Thanks for making me think about what I should appreciate Diamond.
lol Maybe I should do the same. One of these days I should fire up the bike and see what I can find. Oh there's a tree!
And another one!
What a great tree!
Most of my stuff is shot less than a mile from my house.
Within a few miles I've got, well, f*ck all. No wonder I rarely use my camera for my own pleasure anymore
Used to have the Sonoran Desert and Grand Canyon within a days shooting. Now (back home) it's Monterey Bay, Big Sur, etc.
I need to get out more. That's my summer resolution.
Diamond and Anco, how bad can it be? Surely you're exaggerating the lack of prospects!
Here's a challenge show us what you've really got. Post a wide angle shot, taken standing on a ladder, near your back door, facing away from the house.
<chuckle> I am exaggerating, but only by a bit. I live in a very nice rural area, however our dominate geographical features are trees with a few hundred lakes scattered about. No mountains to speak of, no grand harbours or bridges. But if I got off my lazy butt and went hunting, I'm fairly certain I can come up with something to take a picture of, lol.
But I am going to pass on the back door challenge for the time being, since I've gutted one of the kids bedrooms and am re-modelling. So all I can see from my back door is a pile of wall board, acoustic tile and old insulation.
So the back door shot might need to be an abstract.
I'd give my left one to have even 1 good lake with tree's near my place.
I'll admit to 1 nearby lake but as it's surrounded by houses I think it doesn't count.
