Great shot Phil, I love the sky.
Rich, very nice macro. The DOF is great.
Thanks Phil. PTGUI allows you to export the images a HDR is made of seperately, without any blending applied. You can simply load these into Photomatix. If you want to use detail enhancement you have to be sure the images do not have the black bits (the parts at the edge of the frame that are not covered by all the images). If you do have these parts, it will confuse the detail enhancement algortithm.
The allignment will be better than Photomatix is capable of, but you may get distortion due to the way PTGUI allings images. Especially at 10mm, PTGUI sometimes fails to keep lines straight (even though rectaliniear projection has been chosen). The tripod works best.
On windy days I do get ghosting. The day I shot these was rather calm. If I get ghosting I often decide not to use the bright image. I then create the bright image with Capture NX. It's a bit more noisy, but noise is always easier to remove than ghosting.
Here's another picture. This one is a blend of two images two f-stops apart. I edited both until they looked almost the same (except that one had more sky detail and the other less noise on the land). After that, it was very easy to blend in photoshop.
