I wanted to know about some problems buyers mention about Canon Powershot A-400 camera.

1. The lack of good optical zoom(only 2.2x)
2. Canon cameras not good for internal pics as the lens is already zoomed a bit and you have difficulties taking close range pictures.
3. Poor Video mode quality
4. Red-eye problem

Can somebody advise me as i am thinking of buying a Canon Powershot A-400

The first two points are really the same thing. The A400's lens doesn't start at a very wide angle, so if that's important to you, you might want to look for a camera that has a wider lens.

Yes, there are cameras with better video mode than the A400; what will you be using video for? How important is the top video mode to you? What are you willing to pay for it?

Redeye is a common problem on most compact cameras, because the lens is close to the flash. There are a few compact cameras that have very little redeye or good in-camera redeye reduction, but for the most part, I wouldn't base a camera decision on this alone because it can be easily removed in software.

I shall be using videos for shooting dance performances or just small clips nearby of friends and all. And since I shall be using the camera half the times for close range pictures indoor, I think the Canon will be a bit of disadvantage to have.

I also have a Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 in mind which I think should be nice. I am an Indian and have a budget of around 12000 Rs. in which I am getting the best cameras as Sony Cybershot DSC-S40, Kodak Easyshare CX-7330, and Canon Powershot A-400. I think the Sony will have a edge over the other two. Which one is recommended.
